Pura Vida Adventures climbing guides have led trips and explored the climbing area of Western North Carolina’s Pisgah Forest near Brevard since 2000.

Our guides have developed their skills through participation in formal climbing courses, practical work, and personal experience on North Carolina’s rock and rock climbing routes around the world. They hold advanced medical wilderness certifications and have been trained in high angle rescue skills.

Our guided climbing programs range to suite the needs of everyone, from novice scramblers to experienced climbers, and can be combined as part of any other activity to create a complete day.

Pura Vida Adventures’ offers rock climbing in Pisgah National Forest , Brevard, Cashiers, and Highlands North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. Situated just outside Brevard, our location is convenient to Asheville, Hendersonville, Greenville/ Spartanburg and the surrounding areas.

We typically climb at Looking Glass Rock, Cove Creek, Cedar Rock, and Pilot Rock. All three of these climbing areas are a short drive from  Brevard and Asheville North Carolina.
All gear is provided.   All participants are required to wear helmets.

The Experience

Our guided half-day beginner climbing and rappelling program emphasizes safety, instruction, and fun.

Perfect for beginners, no experience necessary, this is a great way for family or friends to spend a morning or afternoon discovering the sport of rock climbing and rappelling while vacationing in the Asheville or Brevard North Carolina area. Great trip for families with kids ages 5-14, as well as participants who are a bit afraid of heights.

Long Wall 140 foot Rock Climbing and Rappelling Experience

The Experience

The Experience: An approximate 3 hr half day adventure or an add on to our Cove Creek Canyon Trip the Long Wall includes a 140 ft rock climb of beginner difficulty which provides great views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. After taking in the view and potentially a photo at the end of the climb, the adventure continues with a 140 ft dry Rappel back down the rock to the ground.

Length: A half day adventure (approximately 3hrs) or an add on to our Cove Creek Canyon Trip (Full Day Cove Creek) approximately 5 ½hrs

Suggested Group: Age 12 and up, beginner level experience, but a moderate level of fitness is required.

3 hr trip length about 5 to 5 1/2 hrs if you also do Cove Creek, length varies based on number of participants

Add Cove Creek Canyon  for $70 a person

Ages 14 and up, This is an intermediate experience and best for those looking for more adventure than the Discover Climbing trip, but don’t want the time commitment and long hike in of the advanced 1/2 day trip. This trip can also be combined with discover climbing if you have a mixed group of abilities.

Advanced ½ day program

The Experience

North Carolina advanced ½ day program is for participants who have past climbing experience either outdoors or in a gym or are in good physical shape, and not afraid of heights. Participants in this program can expect to have a moderately difficult hike of 1-1.5 miles to get to the rock where they will then begin their climbing experience. It is a great way for people to experience climbing and rappelling and also explore their ability and interest in the sport.

4-5 hours

$300 /total for the first two people

Full Day Rock Climbing

The Experience

This full-day climbing and rappelling program emphasizes safety, instruction, and fun. It is a great way for people to experience climbing and rappelling and also explore their ability and interest in the sport. Although no previous experience is required participants should be in good physical shape as they can expect to have a moderately difficult hike of 1-1.5 miles to get to the rock where they will then begin their climbing experience.

7-8 hours

North Carolina Adventure Rock Climbing Program

The Experience

Our North Carolina Adventure climbing program is for climbers with some experience looking for further instruction and a multi pitch climbing experience.

This guided program can focus more on the instruction of anchor building or a multipitch climbing experience based on the needs and wants of the participant.

The program emphasizes safety, instruction, knowledge, and fun.

Full day program (7 – 9 hours)

$450 / total for the first 2ppl
$100 each additional person up to three people

Multipitch climbing and instruction. Great for experienced participants
wanting to experience more than top roping. A great course for participants looking to aspire to greater heights as a climber.

No experience necessary Limit of 3 participants. Participation age is 15 and up.

2 Day Rock Climbing Program

The Experience

This course is designed to provide you with competence and confidence on ropes basic rock climbing skills. It covers all skills beginning climbers should learn including proper gear and how it should be rigged, belaying and rappelling techniques, knots, prussic knots, and climbing techniques.
The second day goes into natural and artificial anchor building for top rope set up. This program also allows for a sufficient amount of climbing time to gain additional climbing experience. Accommodations not provided.

Rappelling Programs

The Experience

Our guided half-day rappelling program emphasizes safety, instruction, and fun.

Not interested in climbing but want to do some rappelling , this is your program

Perfect for beginners, no experience necessary, this is a great way for family or friends to spend a morning or afternoon rappelling while vacationing in the Asheville or Brevard North Carolina area.

3-4 hours

$125 a person

Participation age is 10 and up.
